Today I recited poem “A Clock Stopped” and here is my poster.

As the first semester comes to an end, take time to reflect on your learning and growth in this course. In a well-developed response, explain what you enjoyed most about the class, identify the project or assignment you found most engaging, and discuss which aspect of the course you connected with the most (such as poetry, fiction, writing, or discussion). Finally, reflect on one area where you feel you need additional support or improvement as we move into the spring semester.

Prompt response: What I enjoyed most about this class is that it is very interactive and there are many chances to use creativity. The assignment that I found most engaging was the poem making one where we had to create an original poem and create a digital poster with it. This leads to discuss how poetry was the course I connected with the most. One are throughout this semester that I needed additional help with was just staying kept up on every assignment and editing my free responses more thoroughly with asking for help.  summary: We had a free class period and enough time to complete the blog post.  reflection: This first semester was a teaching moment for me to be more timely. Overall this semester was good.

Many holidays center around traditions. Describe one tradition that is important to you or your family and explain why it still matters (or why it no longer does).

prompt response: One tradition that is important for my family is getting together as a family to go and pick a Christmas tree out in the fields. This tradition as been going on since I was a kid. When the holidays are coming up we would go as a family to pick out a real tree for Christmas as well as also go and taste sugarcane. This tradition is important and still matters as it is bonding time for my family. Every year we always make jokes during the time there and appreciate the time.  summary: During the class period we had time to finish any missing work that needed to be completed. We had time to complete today's blog post.  reflection: I had the time in class to catch up on missing work from this class as well as from other classes. The prompt response brings memories as the holidays are approaching.

How have the holidays changed as you have grown older? Compare your experiences of the holidays during childhood with how you experience them now, focusing on shifts in perspective, responsibilities, or emotional meaning.

prompt response: As I have growned older the holidays seem to become less magical with each one. This happens to be the case especially with one's dealing with fictional characters such as Christmas along with Easter. Even though the magic element is coming to an end from this , I am able to realize the true meaning of each holiday. I can appreciate the presents more whole heartedly and circle back to why we are celebrating in the first place with out it. Now as I experience these holidays I reflect on the true meaning of them and spend them with family.  summary: During the class period we worked on new vocab. We recorded the new vocab into our notes. After that we had to complete the exercises 2-4 and write original sentences for all words.  reflection: The vocab words seemed interesting. Reflecting on the prompt as the holidays come closer makes me think how I want to spend this christmas. I would like to focus on the sharing aspect.

Write about something you’ve outgrown but still miss.

Prompt Response: I have outgrowned some friendships from earlier school years but I do still miss some parts. The reason I have outgrowned these friendships is because we just had different interest and wanted to surround myself with people who are motivated to do the same things. I still miss other things sometimes but it doesn't bother me.  Summary: During the class period we took the vocab test. We were able to have our notes out if we wrote them down which helped.  Reflection: The test was not bad as I thought it would be. Even though the test had a lot of questions it was easy to go through.

Write about something that you can't stop thinking about.

Prompt response: Something that I can not stop thinking about is my future. As I am now an Junior in highschool the topic of college is now relevant and on my radar. The thought of my future scares me as I do not know what will happen. At the same time I am excited to see what the future as in store for me.  Summary: During the class period we talked about what classes we wanted in our senior year. We had the class period to complete any missing work and catch up on assignments while waiting in the library.  Reflection: My future can seem scary at times but it will be fine. The topic of college should not scare me away.

Post the picture of your cultural identity mask onto your blog. Write a reflection about the creation process of the mask or presenting it to the class.

Image
reflection: The creation process came easily as I knew what I wanted to show on my mask. The flag represents my ethnicity being African- American and the cross represents my religion. The earth with the airplane is there to show my desire to travel the world in the future. The book and Legos are there to show my hobbies in my free time. I decided to put the letters Atl on there and in that font to show that I am a native to the city and that my family are big falcon fans. The alien pink drawing is an character from one of the artists that I listen to called Tyler, The creator with his album cherry bomb. The roller coaster is there to show one of my favorite fun moments in my life with going to california and riding the incredibles roller coaster.

Write about the best gift you have received.

prompt response: The best gift I have ever received was a hand made card that was made by my friend for my 16th birthday. The card was an inside joke and it was really fun seeing it for the first time as it had one of my favorite characters on it. She also made a separate card that had one of my favorites albums as the cover. It was very cute and decorated with small flowers. I really enjoyed this gift as It showed much thought behind it.  Summary: During class we went over what our final was as well as saw the poems each student was assigned. After that we did vocab work in the book and had time to comeplete the blog post. Reflection: The final project seems fun to complete. The poem I was assigned was interesting and was a written by Emily Dickinson

After watching the short film Identity, write a blog post reflecting on how the masks in the film represent the pressure to fit in and the struggle to discover who you really are. Choose one moment from the film that stood out to you and explain why. Then, connect the film’s message to Langston Hughes’ poem “I, Too” and to the mask you are creating in class. What part of your identity do you want your mask to reveal?

Prompt Response: In the short film the mask shows the pressure to fit in as in the film different mask represented different groups of people portraying the separation and isolating feeling that it comes with when your mask does not match everyone elses. One moment in the film that stood out to me was in the end when the main girls mask broke and she looked at herself in the mirror leaving with a smile. The reason this stood out to me was because it was a significant change in character as earlier in the film she seemed very self conscious of how her mask was different from everyone elses. The film represents themes in the poem "I,Too" as the mask are there to hide something even though her real self is apart of who she is and in the poem we are told the main narrator is told to hide away into the kitchen even though he is also apart of America. The part of my identity I want my mask to reveal is the nature of my character and beliefs.  Summary: During the class period we wa...

In “I, Too,” the speaker expresses pride in his identity and his rightful place in America. Reflect on your own life: What aspect of your cultural identity are you most proud of, and why?

Prompt Response: As my cultural identity is being African-American the aspect I am most proud of is our ability to reinvent and resilience. This reason I am most proud of these aspects is because of the history of African-Americans in the United States and the fight we had to get here. I think it is important to remember this and continue to expand the community we have.  Summary: During class we read the poem "I,Too" together. As a class we annotated the poem and discuss what was happening as well as the underlying themes. We answered some questions based on the poem. After that we filled out a sheet with our personal information to put and represent on our mask. We then started on mapping/sketching on our mask that we will later turn in.  Reflection: I reflected on the poem as I can make personal connections to it as someone who Is also black in America. During the questions with the poem I reflected on how America is seen and what it means to be American.

In “We Real Cool,” the speakers make choices that seem exciting, bold, and rebellious, even though those choices lead to consequences. Write about a moment in your own life when you followed what looked cool or fun, only to realize afterwards that it wasn’t the smart or responsible path. What influenced your decision, and how did your perspective change later?

Prompt Response: A moment in my life where I became a follower for the sake of being cool was when in elementary I sneaked with a groups of kids into the garden and ate a piece of the peppers that were being grown. This was not smart as later we got in trouble by our teachers. In my mind during that time it looked fun as I also wanted to try what the other kids were doing. My decision was influenced by not wanting to the be the only odd one out not trying it. My perspective later changed as I later had understood how I should not be pressured to do something even if I will be the only odd one out as it caused me to get in trouble which was very avoidable.  Summary: During class we read the poem "We Real Cool" and annotated it as a class. We went over its theme and discuss why it is important. Futhermore we saw an real life example of the theme applied to a person who was lurking at a gas state and unfortunately got shot. After that we completed an assignment which consisted ...

Discuss something meaningful or memorable you experienced over the break, or reflect on what you felt most thankful for during that time.

Prompt Response: Over break I experienced a meaningful moment as I got to bake with my mother for Thanksgiving. I felt very thankful as I was able to spend the time with my family and have acess to bake good food. My grandmother also cooked for Thanksgiving and it was a fun experience to see everyone together. It was very memorable for me as I love hanging out with my family especially my cousins.  Reflection: Some of the vocab words I recognized and knew. The vocab words were interesting and I will be trying to implement them into my daily conversations with people.  Summary: During the class period we completed the vocab assignment. We wrote the new vocab words in our notes and then completed each section of the book.
