After two weeks of studying rhetorical devices, types of rhetoric, and methods for identifying rhetorical techniques, which rhetorical device do you find most effective or compelling, and why?

Prompt Response: After learning more about rhetorical devices the one I find most effective is Rhetorical Question. The reason I think this is most effective is because the question is usually asked after more context/info that leads to whatever point the speaker is trying to make. It makes the audience really think about what was just asked especially after the information that was most likely provided before. This is the main reason why I think it is the most effective.  Summary: absent Reflection: While learning the different types of rhetorical devices using rhetorical question is the most effective. I think it would be even more effective being paired with the three appeals logos, pathos, or ethos. Even more specifically logos as it provides facts as the context which is good when wanting to persuade someone and asking a profound question.

Choose a vocabulary word that resonates with you personally. Write a blog post explaining why this word is significant to you, including any personal memories or experiences that link you to the word.

Prompt Response: One vocab word that resonated with me was convoluted. This word resonated with me the best since it means difficult to discern. Through out my life there has been many things that I can trouble discerning especially in friendships linking the word to me. It can also represent how I also see the good in people and not see the error in people. The word overall best resonates with myself personally.   Summary: During the class time we worked on vocab. We wrote the new vocab into our notes. After that we wrote a original sentence for each one. We also completed exercise 3 and 4.  Reflection: The words seem interesting. A handful of the words I knew or either recognized. These words include livid, anecdote, and gibberish. The words will be used more in my daily vocab.

Prompt: Write about a time you didn’t feel like yourself.

Prompt Response: A time when I didn't feel like myself was during 9th grade. It was a hard transition from middle school from high school social wise. It was hard to fully feel okay expressing myself as majority of my classes I did not have anyone that I knew. This in general just did not make me feel like myself as it also affected my performance academics wise.  Reflection: The MLK speech used a lot of devices that I did not realize before. Going through the speech and identify the many devices used made the speech even more powerful than it already was. I thought that it was important to see the devices he used based on his audience in order to not only appeal but get the message across for no other interpretation.  Summary: During the class period we read MLK's I have a dream speech. As we read this as a class, we went and identified each rhetorical device used. We wrote notes and the specific quotes for examples. We got a sheet to study with for on quiz on Tuesday....

Describe a place where you feel the most at peace and explain why.

Prompt Response: I feel the most at peace in my room. My room is my comfort space as I craft it around myself and my interest. I have the freedom to completely express myself in my room through decor, posters, books, and Legos without being bothered from outside input. In my room I am allowed to take random dance breaks and listen to music.  Summary: Today in class we went over some more rhetorical devices. Most of these devices I already recognized/ knew. We went over metaphors, analogy, and using simile with the word so. We practice with the exercises for each one and turned the paper in. Reflection: The practice was easier as a class. I got to think about my word choice and practice writing analogies which I don't often use.

Reflect on a time when you had to rely on someone else. How did it feel?

Prompt Response:  One time is when I had to rely on my friend to ask our manager about the work hours. She knew that I was not satisfied with the management and went ahead asking them for me during one of her shifts. It was greatly appreciated as they were able to identify the problem and give me more hours. Even though the reason seemed questionable as my availability has been set my friend knew and asked on my behalf making me feel heard and acknowledge.  Summary:  During the class period we went over more rhetorical devices. We completed at least once exercise for each one as well as create and come up with examples. After that we had time in class to complete the blog post. Reflection: The simile device was familiar but I wasn't familiarized that using the word "so" for a simile could be used more common. The lesson was easy to understand and each one I can use in my daily life.

What life skills have you learned in high school that will help you live independently after high school? Which skills do you think are essential for your success after high school?

Prompt Response: Some skills that I have learned that will help me live independently after high school include public speaking, managing my time with numerous responsibilities, and build important critical thinking skills.  Summary: During the class period we went over 10 more rhetoric devices. After that we reviewed what ethos ,pathos, and logos is. Then as a class we watched Trumps announcement on the immigration "crisis" where we pointed out all the rhetoric he used to persuade the viewers. Reflection: I am more intrigued the more we learn about rhetoric. While watching trump I did not realize before all the rhetoric that he used. It was very interesting to see as it happens a lot.

Prompt: Describe a time when you took a hiatus from something important. What led to the break, and how did it impact you?

Prompt Response:  A time when I took a hiatus from something important was during last year for volleyball. The reason for the break was because of burn out issues with the sport. It impacted me as I was able to fully reflect on my love for the sport and to see if I wanted to continue or not. The break as made me realize that I do love the sport but would like to play it outside of school. Summary: During the class period we continued to go over more rhetoric devices. We created examples for each one. As well as understood each definition and reviewed as the class what really makes each one. Reflection: Learning the different types of rhetoric devices is very helpful. Making the examples was a way to test my understanding of each one. It was more helpful to do it as a class.

Use a hyperbole, an understatement, and a litotes to describe today's lesson.

Prompt Response: Todays lesson was so long it felt like I was there for an century. The lesson for today was not bad for what we were learning. It was a breeze to come up with examples.  Summary: During the class period we went through different rhetorical devices. We learned how they are used and looked at the definition for each one.As a class we learned each one a wrote examples for each. After that we had time to  Reflection: I learned the different types of rhetorical devices. Once I understood each one I was able to easily make examples.

In 2–3 well-developed sentences, reflect on how you spent your Holiday Break. Then, identify four personal you would like to achieve this year and briefly explain why each goal is important to you (Copy and paste your completed response from Writable into your blog).

Prompt response: I spend my winter break mostly resting and recovering from the first semester. Most of my time went to sleeping for the first couple of days. After that I enjoyed the holidays with my family over at my grandmothers house.  4 Goals  1. The first goal that I want to achieve this year is the accomplishment of all A's in my second semester of junior year. This goal is important to me because, through striving for this goal, it will teach me how to persevere through hard times and is especially important as these grades will be most important when applying to colleges in the fall of 2026. To accomplish this goal, I will look back adequately on the first semester of junior year and assess the areas that I need improvement on in order to ensure my success towards this goal, making sure I use sail every Thursday for extra help, studying for an hour on topics I struggle on after school and implement new changes for what did not work in the past. By May 2026, I plan to ...
