Write about a conversation that changed you.

Prompt Response: A conversation that truly changed me was when I had a deep discussion with my friends on the topic of life. This conversation randomly came about as we went down a loop hole talking and spamming the chat. We got to share each others experiences and share our perspectives while giving each other advice and truly listening to one another. The reason this conversation changed me is that I was able to expand my thinking and perspective on certain subjects. After talking to my friends I wasn't as closed minded as I was before.  Summary: Today in class we took notes involving how the cite evidence. The main ways are to cite a direct quote, summarize the quote, or paraphrase the quote. In class we read two articles which we took evidence from to either support that social media is more harmful or that social media is more beneficial to teens mental health and social life. After that we had time to complete the blog If finished.  Reflection: I took a stance that...

Write about something that you believed as a child.

Prompt Response: Something I believed as a child was the elf on the shelf. I believed in this as I couldn't make up in my little mind how he moved everytime. I would monitor my mother yet he would still move which is why I believed that he was actually alive. This belief brought many laughs and tears as I got frustrated because I couldn't prove it was my mother during that time.  Summary: In class today we watched examples of ethos, pathos, and logos being used in ads. We identified as a class each example and how rhetoric is used. We also talked about who the audience is for each one. After that we started on a vocab assignment.  Reflection: I reflected on the different answers when watching the ads. I saw how each ad was its rhetoric and the reasoning behind each. I now understand this topic more thoroughly.

Write about a fear you have overcome.

Prompt Response: A fear I have overcome is the fear of death. This is due to personally believing in God and Jesus Christ. From this I have felt peace knowing that I shouldn't look at it as the final destination but instead in a new light of life in eternity. The thought of maybe going to hell for eternity is scary in the sense that I fear God's wrath but its not scary since I know God will guide me in order to reach eternal life. This is what brings me peace and I am not scared to actually die as I view it being sent to a better place.  Summary: In class we worked in groups to complete an assignment on identifying claims. We had to read a short article on why should 3 year bachelors program be the new time frame for students. From this article we took examples based on the topic it was under. The categories we identified were claims of value, policy, or fact.  Reflection: I gained more practice on identifying claims on a source. As well as learning how the indentified cl...

As you grow older and face new experiences, what issue or topic do you think you'll have to stand up and debate most often, whether with friends, family, or society?

Prompt Response: A topic I think I will have to debate to society as I grow older is the subject of having kids. In todays society its expected for women to go on and have kids not being single. I know that many people may think having kids for a women and being married is what their supposed to look forward to but in contast I dont want either of those things in my life. Instead I would like to solo travel the world for as long as I can. Many people may view that decision as that person hating kids but its not true its just the fact that this world isnt the ideal world to raise a kid especially how things are looking and heading to.  Summary: In class we did more practice. We did practice on claimes of policy, value, and fact. We reviewed as a class what an agruement is what the parts of it.  Reflection: I reflected on making examples and practicing more on the types of claims.

Write about a truth you were afraid to accept.

Prompt Response:  A truth I was afraid to accept was that I most likely will never reach 5'10 like my grandmother. I've always wanted to be tall like my grandmother but knowing that my grandfather is short I had a feeling it was never going to happen. My mother is the average height and my father is 6'0. The reason why this is hard to accept is that my sister ended up tall and I didn't which makes it worse.  Summary: During class we took notes. We went  over them practicing writing and identifying claims. The three claims were policy, fact and value. We then came up with our own on paper.  Reflection: I learned the different type of claims and how to use them. We also learned how this is a part of an argument. The claim is supported by evidence which is the most important part.

Write about a time when you were judged unfairly.

Prompt Response:  A time when I was judged unfairly was when I was misperceived as someone "mean". This was because I apparently had a rbf. I always get this when meeting new people that sometimes I seem anti-social and purposefully distant. I always reply with its just my face. Due to this misconception Im always getting judged unfairly and never given a opportunity to share my genuine self with people. When they think I'm "mean" and being quiet on purpose I'm just trying to put together the right words to find the courage to talk.  Summary: Today in class we just did a common lit and had time to complete the blog for today.  Reflection:  I just reflected on the common lit story by answering questions.

What would you be curious to know about the traditions, foods, music, or celebrations?

Response:I would be curious the most to know more about holidays and traditions. I would like to know the origin of these things. I find it interesting to learn about other peoples cultures. Along with the correct way to organize.  reflection:I reflected on the various ways to create a good planning. I wrote my own bubble chart.

Describe what you enjoyed about it or something new you learned from their work.

Response: One presentation that caught my attention was Clara's since I thought the extended metaphor was interesting. As well as how she presented it and decided to read the poem in German. I thought that added to the originality of the poem even though I couldn't understand myself. Overall I thought she explained it very well and it had the biggest impact.  Summary: In class we shared and presented each others poem creations. We individually rated each poem creation. Based on that the class decided the winners for a work pass.  Reflection: I reflected on everyones poem creations. Each that were shared were rated and scored.

Think about a time when you felt like an interloper or when someone else felt out of place in your world. How did that situation affect relationships, emotions, or outcomes?

Response: A time I would describe myself feeling like a interloper was when I hanged out with people who have different interest and opinions of my own. Hanging out with people who have different interest and are occupied with stuff I dont care about made me feel alienated has I had nothing to contribute to the conversations. This situation affected relationships by making me more and more distant with them with time.I felt like a 'intruder"everytime I tried to help by providing different perpectives and opinions on certain topics and ended up no longer caring to share anything to thoswe group of people.  Reflection: I reflected on the story in common lit. Along with the different perspectives. Analyzed the story tellings and answered questions based off the reading.  Summary: Completed the common lit.

Of today’s 15 vocabulary words, which three do you think you will use the most in your speaking and writing this semester? Explain why each word feels useful or powerful to you.

Prompt Response:  Out of the 15 words I think ambiguous, amorphous, and adroit will be used the most in my speech along with my writing this semester. The word ambiguous feels useful as in class during American Lit multiples ideas are expected to be heard especially when open class discussions happen. Many people in the class may have different interpretations on one subject and others may agree to multiple. The word  amorphous feels useful to maybe describe some of the work we may read that will be needed to voice my opinion as well as peoples responses to certain questions. Lastly, the word adroit will also be anticipated to be useful to describe some of the work we will be reading in class along with what we write.  Summary: In class we went over notes and a PowerPoint. The PowerPoint was about the steps in the writing process. As a class we brainstormed on our own example and wrote what the format of the paragraph would be. Reflection: I reflected on the thinking proces...

Which learning method do you enjoy the most? Class discussions, worksheet work, or hands-on actvities. Select one and tell why.

Response: The learning method I enoy the most are hands-on activities. I enjoy these the most since I am a visual learner. This helps me to understand more what the topic is about as I can actually see it. Doing hands-on activities can help me put in perspective what I should be visualizing in my head.  Summary: For the block period we finished our creation poems. We reviewed the presentation we will be doing. We reviewed the rubric along with the instructions. After that we had time to work on the project.  Reflection: I finished my poem. As well as organized it right. I started working on my presentation. I thought about how I wanted to portray this through the visual representation on my slide.

Which aspect of creating a poem do you enjoy the most? Tell what it is and explain why.

Response:  I enjoy having the ability to freely write when writing a poem that doesn't require a structure. The reason for this is because I can have the creative mind and tell a message how I would like it told. Free writing a poem makes it more personal for me as I have no limits. When free writing a poem I can share the unique perspectives I have on a certain topic.  Summary: Today in class we started out own creative Poems. As a class we reviewed what figurative language. As well as examples to use in our poems.  Reflection: I have a reviewed mind on what kinds of figurative language I can use. In class I reflected on what topic I wanted to write about. As well as what kind of message I wanted to send with my extended metaphor.

Describe a single, specific incident that felt ridiculously bold or foolish.

Response: A single specific incident that felt ridiculoudly bold or foolish is when I tried to stuff a lot of marshmallows in my mouth knowing that I couldn't. This felt absurd as I know myself couldn't take that many and I had a stomach ache. I still did it anyway to prove myself to others. This was a very foolish moment.  Summary: Today in class we annotated the poem called, " Constantly Risking Absurdity". As a class we reflected on the extended metaphor of the poet and the acrobat. We watched videos related to acrobats and their crazy feats.  Reflection: I reflected on how similar two different things can be. The acrobat and poet are related in many ways. It was crazy to see the videos showing the family of acrobats.

You are currently working on a soundtrack for selected Emily Dickinson poems. With that in mind, if asked to choose a song to describe your life right now, which song would you select and why?

Response: To describe my life I would choose the song cranes in the sky. The way the song is composed gives me a calming feeling which leads me to not caring about my situation. I can as well relate to the lyrics trying to do everything to distract myself on the bigger problem at hand. The song in the end describes me and the saying " it is what it is" with the repeated lyrics of away.  Reflection: I reviewed and reflected on the analysis made on my assignment.  Summary: Today in class we took a poem test. After that we had time to work on our 5 poem songs and the poem quote analysis.

If you were to compose a poem about one aspect of your life, which topic would it fall into and what would your overall life's message be?

Response: If I were to compose a poem about my social life the topic would fall into Growth, Laughter, and Friendship. This would be because of my friends and the people that I've met who put me in situations to grow. As well as reflect on what kind of person I am. My overall lifes message would be to keep on experiencing life no matter if it seems good or bad at the moment as the storm always comes to pass.  Reflection: I got to analyze different quotes and explore their meanings along with topics/themes.  Summary: Today in class we finished the 5 songs for Dickinsons poems. We did analysis for specific quotes and used the rest of class to work on illuminate.

Describe one thing that makes you different from other people.

Response: One thing that makes me different from other people is my perspective on life. Even though people may share the same experiences and values everyone has a different perspective even if its a tiny difference. My perspective makes me think differently from others on a more deeper level. My perspective also makes me feel different emotions than others as no one can truly know how you feel.  Reflection: Analyzed poems during class. I used the time to complete my heart poem creative design.  Summary: In class we went over more of Emily Dickinson. Then we had the rest of the time to work on anything that needed to be completed.
