Describe how you spent your time, any activities, traditions, travel, hobbies, or moments that stood out to you. You may also discuss something new you tried, something you learned, or how the break helped you reset before returning to school. Keep your response appropriate for a school setting and focus on experiences you are comfortable sharing publicly

Prompt Response: While on break I mostly rested by staying in the house. I also worked on the break and hanged out with friend. I went over to hang out with friends to play basketball and play group games. During break I got ahead in summer applications for programs and cleaned.  Summary: During the class period we read a poem by Maya Angelou for black history month. After that we got a sheet with a metaphor and simile side. We as a group at our tables had to identify each. Then we explained what each one meant. At the end as a class we went over our answers and had a open discussed.  Reflection: The poem was interesting to read. The video of her was also interesting learning that Maya Angelou was a dance and worked operating a bus. The poem showed that she was not afraid to express herself.

After viewing your classmates’ digital posters and reading the feedback comments left on your work, what new ideas or perspectives did you gain about your poster? Reflect on how the feedback influenced the way you think about your creative choices and describe what you learned about the creative process while designing and presenting your poster.

Prompt Response: The comments on my poster were very positive. Most of them commented on my creativity as well as my formatting which was different. Many of the comments thought that it was colorful and appealing. I feel confident in my creative choices after seeing the comments. I learned to trust myself in the process of trying to be creative.  Summary: During the class period we watched the news. The topics were on A.I. in schools specifically college. They covered the issues the come with it and showed the difficulty for university leaders to find a balance. We then answered questions based on the news we watched. After that the class looked at each others posters and commented positive things on each one.  Reflection: Watching the news was very interesting. For the most part I agreed with the students attending college. However, I do think that before we can decide on using A.I. for a study tool we should find a sustainable way to power the platform without using wa...

Today you created similes and metaphors that reflect your struggles, growth, and resilience. In a well-developed paragraph, reflect on the process. What did you learn about yourself while writing your figurative language?

Prompt Response: In order to create the examples you had to reflect on your life and feelings. Most of the topics had to do with situations with interacting with yourself and the world around you. It was hard as we did not have to overthink with the examples and it can be something more common. While writing my figurative language I learned that I tend to overthink my examples and wonder if they are not good enough creative wise. I tried to make sure they were more creative so I can represent them better when we do a presentation.  Summary: During the class time we wrote multiple similes and metaphors on various topics. The topics were centered around oneself and what one has gone through. The topics required deep thought in created the the rhetorical devices. We reviewed our metaphors and simile's in our groups to make sure they were good.  Reflection: The process was fun. I could think deeply about these. The examples were hard sometimes to come up with as some did not...

Reflect on the simile and metaphor worksheet. Which topic challenged you the most when creating your figurative language, and why? In your response, explain what made that topic difficult and how you worked through the challenge (or what you might do differently next time).

Prompt Response: The topic that was most challenging was "Doubt or Criticism". The reason for this is because its hard trying to compare my thought process with doubt since it varies on how doubt creeps in. This also applies with how I take criticism. I worked through the challenged by seeing if there's any common situations that can compare to what I feel when I face doubt or criticism. I ended up choosing to associate it with my success and how it will go.  Summary: During the class period we created a presentation for our 6 metaphors and simile's. On the board each example had to be present and with explanations. As well as visuals for each example for better understanding of the rhetorical device. We went over what was needed and the rubric as a class.  Reflection: During the process of creating the presentation, I enjoyed the creative aspect of it. The process was enjoyable seeing what images I can use to visually show my metaphors and simile. The presentation w...

If you had to describe how you show love using only three objects (for example: a playlist, a hoodie, a late-night snack, a long text message, etc.), what would you choose and why? Explain what each object represents and how it connects to your personality.

Prompt Response: If I had to pick 3 objects to show how I love it would be headphones, food, and handwritten cards. The headphones would represent my love for music and how I want to share that with others as it can express what I feel. Food is something I would share to show my love as food brings people together with many cultures. Lastly handwritten cards as I am a sentimental person and sharing cards is something to keep.  Summary: absent  Reflection: absent

Now that you have completed the rhetorical analysis essay, reflect on your growth. Explain how this experience impacted your confidence as a writer and whether you feel prepared to continue analyzing complex speeches and texts in American Literature. Support your reflection with specific references to the writing process.

Prompt Response: absent  Summary: absent  Reflection: absent

Today, you learned how to complete a rhetorical analysis planning guide step by step, from identifying the rhetorical situation to analyzing devices and effects. Reflect on one step of the rhetorical analysis process that helped you understand the process more clearly. Explain what you learned during that step and how it improved your ability to analyze a speaker’s message.

Prompt Response:  (absent) Based on the paper the rhetorical analysis planning guide the step brainstorming would most likely help me understand more. Brainstorming helps me to visualize and put my own thoughts together. Brainstorming can help me organize my information for the rhetorical analysis.  Summary: absent  Reflection: absent

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day week, describe your idea of a perfect day spent with someone you care about (a friend, family member, or significant person in your life). image.png

Prompt Response: My idea of the perfect day hanging out with my friends is going to do a fun activity in the city. It would be something like going to the aquarium or a fun spot like beat the bomb. After wards we would eat lunch at a nice spot. Then everyone would return home in order to get ready for a sleep over.  Summary: During the class period we read a speech given by Barack Obama in New Hampshire 2008. This speech was to encourage the spirit of his audience. As class work we had to identify rhetorical devices used throughout the speech. With the class we went over the steps of making a rhetorical essay and the components.  Reflection: As valentines weekend is coming up I hope to spend it resting. I want to use the beginning of the break in order to catch up sleeping. With the Barack Obama speech it was a little bit challenging finding examples of diction.

What is the best piece of advice of that your parent or guardian has given you? Tell what the advice was and what prompted you to ask the question.

Prompt Response: The best piece of advice a guardian has ever given me is to surround yourself with people who are going to lift you up and are going to places you also want to go to. The conversation was about the friends I had in middle school and how it was affecting me. My guardian told me this as I wanted to reach for higher and apply myself to do more greater things. My friends at that time had very limited mindsets.  Summary: During the class period we read a poem. The poem was rhetorical. As a class we identified each. We filled out a paper talking about the different elements. Reflection: The friends I had at that time did not apply themselves which made is frustrating trying to debunk what they were saying about my character. I think every has potential to reach higher points but limiting beliefs and not attempting will hold you back as a person.

What is the most challenging part of working in a group? Discuss a time when a group assignment did not go as well as you planned and how you learned from that experience.

Prompt Response: The most challenging part of working in a group is making sure everyone is participating and engaged. I find this the most challenging as often times there are some members who don't do there assigned roles or offer to help making it harder to complete the task at hand. A time when this happened was working on a slide presentation in 8th grade for GA studies. One person did not pull their weight making the other team members and myself included to finish their part. I learned that I should've reached out and addressed it instead of staying quiet until presentation day.  Summary: During the class period we looked at different examples of rhetoric writings. As a group we compared each writing and rated what we thought. The writings were about the rhetoric devices used. They were all written during a time period.  Reflection:  Looking back on the situation I should have said something as it was a lot of work to put in. It was unfair for myself and the other ...

What is the most challenging part of writing an essay for you? Is it brainstorming, organizing ideas, writing a strong thesis, or something else? How do you plan to overcome this challenge? image.png

Prompt Response: The most challenging part of writing a essay for me is making sure I provide relevant context when it comes to DBQ's. In other essays I struggle on the flow of the essay as I may have the points as well as ideas organized it just a matter of transitioning smoothly. I plan to overcome this challenge by expanding my vocabulary and better use of connecting which ideas relate to each to provide a seamless transition.  Summary: During the class period we worked on a writeable. We had to point out the rhetorical devices used. We then had to provide details as evidence. This was Barack Obama's speech. We had to identify multiples examples or a overall strategy that was used.  Reflection: When writing a DBQ I tend to create a good thesis based on the documents provided but not always make a clean transition to each idea or point. I think it would better help me to see which ones are relevant to each other so it can be connected. As well as provide context that c...

Describe a real moment in your life that felt like the beginning of a powerful story. Tell what happened, and why it felt like a turning point in your life?

Prompt Response: A moment is when I competed in mock trial. I got to support my team as well as compete. It felt like a turning point as I got to see our work come to life. It felt powerful as I got to see the upper class man step up and own their roles. It was very empowering as we were very close which inspired me to do better the following year.   Summary: During the class time we completed a writeable. The writeable was about a short story. We had to answer questions to the writeable. We discussed this as a class.  Reflection: After witnessing our performance I was amazed. This felt like a beginning of a powerful story. I wanted to do better the following year after realizing how close we were.

If you had to write a poem about your life RIGHT NOW, what would it be about? Explain your answer in at least 4 to 5 sentences.

Prompt Response: If I had to write a poem about my life right now it would be centered around what makes me the happiest. It would include my family and friends. As well as mention what I think my purpose in life is. The reason I would write about this in a poem about my life is because it is what is most important to me. It would reveal why I am this way as friends ,family, and my purpose play a big role.  Summary: During the class period we wrote notes. After that we reviewed what we have done with rhetoric as we are going to write a essay on it soon. We had time after that in class as it was a short day.  Reflection: I am looking forward to write the essay since we have not done one until now. If I had to write a poem about my life it would most likely be difficulty even knowing what I want to put in it. My life has many components that reveal who I am.

When you are in a mood that you do not like, what are some strategies that you use to change your mood?

Prompt Response: Some strategies that I use when I am in a mood is to first remove myself from whatever situation I am in. I do this so I can fully take a break and have a mental pause to assess what is making me irritated. As well as to ask myself why is this thing affecting me so much. Another strategy that I do is just to move in a quiet space and breath.  Summary: During the class period we completed a NewsELA . After that we had time to complete any missing work or our blogs.  Reflection: During the class period I was able to get a lot of work done. The class was assigned the NewsELA. I do not often get into moods unless it is something I care deeply about.

Describe your personal approach to creativity. What steps do you follow when you’re working on a project. Tell me about a project you created that you were most proud of.

Prompt Response: My personal approach to creativity is to first brainstorm ideas that I may have. After I brainstorm I either map out what ever it is or sketch to have more of a visual representation. I make sure I have all the materials and the certain criteria then from there add more. A project I created that I was most proud of was when I made a painting last year for Romeo and Juliet. I represented Juliet as the sun and Romeo as the moon and used other details to show who they are.  Summary: During the class period I finished my rhetoric test. After finishing the test I read the story "The Unlikely Hero". Then I worked on the questions based on the story. I recorded the new vocab in my notes.  Reflection: The test was not as bad as I thought it would be. I was able to work on the writeable after and get some of it done during class. The painting I worked on last year in Ms. Hoynes Lit/Comp class and it was a very enjoyable process.
